pinocchio rough stuff... it's still so much in the initial phase, but i can't resist sharing it, regardless of it's raw and imperfect newnesses... it'll only get better... hopefully. i s'pose, for anyone interested, i can broadly explain the process i'm using here: it's a mix of hand drawn imagery and photography, collaged and composed in photoshop. then i take the seperate elements and make a boil (very short animated loop) or a sequence from the parts using imageready (a photoshop offshoot), export frames, sequence in quicktime, then bring 'em all into final cut pro and make big video sandwiches replete with motion graphics. my hope is that despite the render times, i'll be saving time for not composing each and every frame like i did with the dawn of the pixies. it's a less refined effect, as you can see from the stickman animation i did - it's essentially the same process, but with a little more effort... here's some really rough dailies from my first day of editing... these are in no way final, but i had to do web updates today, for dear dear chma, so when the behemoth is launched, take advantage, i say.
